A book about Fitegic Planning is on the way…this blog is designed to introduce the basic concepts of Fitegic Planning, provide you with reliable information about attaining a healthy weight and level of fitness, as well as a forum for me to share some “Tricks of the Trade” that have worked for me over the 30+ years I’ve sustained a healthy weight and remained fit after losing 100 pounds along with the insights I’ve gained along the way.
Fitegic Planning is the way you will marry Meaning, Motivation, and Method into a plan of action that promotes a life-long healthy weight and level of fitness. For example, here is a simple exercise designed to discover your “Meaningful Why.” But what is meaningful to you at one time most often loses the meaning it has for you over time.
The beauty of this exercise is that doing it periodically helps by “checking in” to see if your Meaningful Why still drives you – and it certainly comes in handy when it’s obvious it has completely lost its meaning.
Answer this question in 1 – 5 sentences: WHY do I want to lose weight?
- After you finish answering, read it over, and then ask yourself again, WHY is that important to me? – and answer in 1-5 sentences.
- Yup – you guessed it: do it (at least) one more time.
Sounds silly, but it might look something like this:
“I want to lose weight because I’m so tired all the time and can’t stand the way I look.”
Then you ask yourself,”Why is that important to me?” And your answer might look something like this:
“I hate not having the energy to do anything I enjoy. I can’t remember the last time I did anything fun with the kids. We went to Disneyland and I could barely make it to each ride. They begged me to ride with them, but all I wanted to do was collapse on the bench and wait for them. I know people don’t take me seriously at work, like being fat means I don’t have good ideas. I do. I’m smart. I have a lot to offer. But, who am I kidding? I’m so damn tired most of the time that I’m GLAD they don’t ask me to take on any special projects.”
Then you ask yourself again, “Why is that important to me?” And maybe your final answer looks something like this:
“My children are growing up so fast and I’ve missed so much already. I want to be the parent I know I am and the parent my children need me to be. I’m not satisfied in my job. I want to have the energy and confidence to reach my potential.”
WHOA! Those last few sentences were a lot more meaningful to you that those first few. You feel a renewed sense of purpose and energy as you look forward to a more meaningful, fulfilled future instead of dreading “going on another diet” because your sick and tired of being overweight.
What Fitegic Planning is all about is giving you tools to consistently put into action the three things necessary to lose and sustain a healthy weight:
